Nashville Hot Chicken Will Change Your Life

We visited Nashville, Tennessee in May and it was my first time being there in years. Cory has been traveling to Nashville, Tennessee frequently these last few months, so she knew all of the good places to check out. Of course, between the both of us, we had the day planned out with food, music and more food. We had a pretty busy day planned since we only had one day of our trip scheduled for Nashville. This post is dedicated to how Nashville hot chicken changed my life and how I think everyone should try it at least once. The title of this blog post is a little dramatic, but I mean have you had Nashville hot chicken?

I’m going to be completely honest and say we only went to one place, so I can’t speak for all of the other hot chicken places in Nashville. I had my first experience with hot chicken at Hattie B’s. We went to the Melrose location with hopes of it not being as popular as the one closer to downtown. Fortunately, we arrived 10 minutes before opening and there were only a few people in front of us! We were really excited about this experience because we had been drooling over pictures on Instagram and Yelp all week for this place. I ordered the plate with two sides and ordered the chicken with a spice level of hot. Cory ordered the plate as well and her chicken medium. It took no time getting our order in and getting our food. It was early in May so the temperature in Nashville was nice so we sat outside. We ordered all the classic southern sides that go with fried chicken (collard greens, Mac and cheese, Cole saw and potato salad) , but the real star of the show is the chicken itself. If you’re reading this because you’re preparing for your first time, do you see the bread in the picture above? Do not remove the bread!! Let the bread sit under your chicken so it can soak up all the delicious flavor that falls off as you eat. Cory made the mistake of moving her bread to the side as soon as we got our food. I left mine on the bottom and ate it last. That bread is fantastic. The spice level of hot was perfect for me, but I also enjoy spicy food. Cory isn’t as into spicy food, so the medium was perfect for her. If you’re a hot chicken enthusiast like myself, then this picture below is for you.
