3 Tips For Traveling As A Couple

By caitkontalis | Sep 7, 2020

As the saying goes, traveling together is the ultimate test of a relationship.

Sunsets and margaritas are all well and good, but it comes with delayed flights, rainy days, and lost wallets.
To keep the peace and make the best of your time together, try out a few of these tips:

Give Yourself Space

If possible, book accommodations that have two rooms. My partner and I frequently work remotely on our travels, and simply need separate space to get work done. Having the freedom to close a door, even for an hour, can you give time to focus or simply recharge before continuing on your adventures.

Spend A Day Apart

Maybe you love visiting museums and your partner loves to try sushi spots. You don't have to do everything together all of the time. Take an afternoon, and see all the museums you want. You won't worry about “moving along” to entertain your partner, and you can take your sweet time staring at that Van Gogh. Now, I believe there is a lot of value in the shared experience and doing activities together for your partner. But, this time you're traveling together 24/7. It's okay to take a day to just do what you want and they can do what they want. One of the best parts is meeting up for dinner after your long day apart and swapping stories. It may even make you miss your partner for the first time during your travel *wink*.

Remember Its The Situation

Something is bound to go wrong at least once on every trip. Whether it's missing your flight or getting food poisoning. Before snapping at your partner, try to take a moment, reflect, and acknowledge you're both stressed and outside of your normal environment. People have had to rearrange flights, find a new hotel, and lost their luggage all before.

You will be okay. Take a deep breath, give each other a hug, and go along for the ride.
