The rise of farm to table tourism in New Zealand Up until the 1980’s the traditional food you would eat was the typical meat, three vegetables and potatoes. Simple food but not very exciting.

Over the last 30 years there has been a food evolution in New Zealand which has gone hand in hand with the rise of Kiwi wines. New Zealand’s hospitality industry is in the forefront with its state of the art cuisine. Hotels, lodges and local B&B’s are providing guests with fresh, organic and locally grown food. There is a new luxury trend of Farm to Table tourism. It is becoming an increasingly important part of the luxury lodge experience. No matter what your budget, you can experience great local produce and hospitality; Tarata Fishaway Lodge is a 4* farm stay, nestled next to the Rangitikei River in the heart of the North Island. Your hosts the Mattock Family provide tours of the farm and if you are lucky you can even help to feed the animals. There is even the option for a number of fishing tours. Hearty home cooked meals can be provided using a range of home grown produce and meat. Mangapapa is one of Hawkes Bay’s most prestigious properties. This 5* small hotel creates meals with the seasons in mind and they use the fruit and vegetables grown in the garden. The chefs are inspired by local produce and the quality of the ingredients. Guests are invited to tour the grounds, the sheep paddocks and kitchen garden. Huntaway Lodge is a 5*boutique lodge situated on the Northland.
