Longest Canopy Walk in America

Longest Canopy Walk in America

After eagerly waiting approximately two years, the Longest Canopy Walk in America is now completed! Located at Whiting Forest in Midland, Michigan, this marvelous walk is even better than we anticipated. As months passed, Chris and I would slowly drive by, hoping to sneak a few peeks of the progress. We watched heavy machinery enter the wooded forest and disappear, long steel beams erected and lots of construction noises. The anticipation was killing me!! I would go for walks at Dow Gardens nearby, hoping for a bit of the mystery to be revealed.

FINALLY! The canopy was completed! This unbelievable canopy walk stretches 1,400 feet long and soars 40 feet above the forest floor! The beautiful canopy walk is accessible to everyone as a gradual ramp ascends all the way to the top of the walkway. This outstanding walkway took 2,720 tons of steel to create the supports and structure!

It's a fantastic place to walk for exercise as the forest has many paved paths. There are also lots of little bridges with frogs to discover in the spring and a few places to sit and enjoy the ponds and forest. I have even seen a beautiful fox a couple times!

Whiting Forest also completed a playground that is a fantastic for kids to burn off some energy while getting some healthy fresh air! There are also several play areas along the walk with netting and ropes to jump in and play. (Great for adults too! I just had to try it!!)

There is also a hidden lower level in one of the "pods" along the walk that will definitely spark their imagination. Plus if you and your adventurers get hungry, Whiting Forest has a beautiful cafe with delicious treats and a great view of the forest!

INSIDER TIPS:
1. If you wish to avoid crowds, go during the week.
2. If it's winter, call ahead to make sure they are open and have cleared the pathways
3. See if you can find the suspended glass bridge!!

Get out and play!
