In recent years Kuala Lumpur has been a highlight for travelers and influencers alike. A few years ago, the 272 steps leading Batu Caves were painted rainbow colors which drew in a lot of attention especially on Instagram. Here is everything you need to know when visiting the Kuala Lumpur Batu Caves!

Monkey Business Around 8 AM

Monkey Business Around 8 AM

The Batu Caves are an ever-popular tourist attraction consists of 3 caves and TONS of monkeys. The rainbow steps leading up the hill made out of limestone. The temple at the top is a place of worship, so although you are visiting as a tourist respecting the culture is extremely important. There are monkeys EVERYWHERE. Personally, I am not the biggest monkey fan because they can get quite aggressive from being surrounded by humans all the time. Be sure not to be carrying food or anything they may think is food because they will not be afraid to fight you for it. Just in case they do fight you for it make sure you have travel insurance!

BLOGGER TIP: Visit early in the morning or later in the evening

Because it can get quite hot (and rainy in monsoon season), I recommend visiting early in the morning to beat the weather! Going at sunrise is a good idea especially if you are hoping to capture an Instagram worthy shot. We arrived around 6:45 AM when we practically had the place to ourselves.

How to Get There

We decided to make our lives easy and take a GRAB (Southeast Asia’s most popular ride-sharing platform) early in the morning. This service is the easiest way to get around the city and if I’m being transparent, we used this the entire time we were on KL because it was convenient and affordable.

What to Wear

Dressing modestly is important and necessary when visiting the Buta Caves. This includes clothing that covers your legs, shoulders, and arms.

Drone Usage

When we went early we had no problem using our drone, however once we went inside the caves, we say a sign saying that they were not permitted. This is at your own risk and typically bystanders will tell you that it isn’t allowed. Be mindful and respectful when bringing out a drone. This is pretty typical in most of Kuala Lumpur
